Many truck drivers may be back to using paper logs after the FMCSA revoked two electronic logging devices (ELDs) for failure to meet federal standards.<\/p>\n

On Wednesday, December 18, the FMCSA announced that Mountain ELD and XELD devices were placed on the Revoked Devices list for failure to meet minimum requirements.<\/p>\n

Carriers using these devices should take the following action:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Discontinue using the revoked ELDs and revert to paper logs or logging software to record required hours of service data.<\/li>\n
  2. Replace the revoked ELDs with compliant ELDs from the\u00a0Registered Devices list<\/a>\u00a0before February 16, 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The FMCSA provides carriers with 60 days to replace revoked ELDs, during which time law enforcement is encouraged not to issue citations.<\/p>\n

    After February 16, 2025, motors carriers that continue to use revoked devices are considered to be operating without an ELD and the FMCSA instructs safety officials to issue a citation for \u201cNo record of duty status\u201d and to place the driver out-of-service.<\/p>\n

    This is the second ELD revocation notice issued by FMCSA so far this month. On December 11, FMCSA also revoked approval for the following devices<\/a>.<\/p>\n
