Total congestion hours decreased from 2021 to 2022, but operation costs increased over the same time period, causing the congestion costs to rise 15% \u2013 from $94.6 billion in 2021 to $108.8 billion in 2022.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis level of delay is equivalent to more than 430,000 commercial truck drivers sitting idle for one work year and an average cost of $7,588 for every registered combination truck,\u201d ATRI estimated.<\/p>\n<p>An estimated 6.4 billion gallons of diesel worth $32.1 billion was wasted due to congestion in 2022.
