Rebuilding efforts for the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore will begin in January after nine months of planning and negotiation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore, Maryland collapsed<\/a> in the early morning hours of March 26th, 2024 after a large cargo ship crashed into the structure, sending a large portion of the bridge into the Patapsco River.\u00a0<\/p>\n According to Washington Post<\/a>, work crews are scheduled to begin underwater surveys on January 7th. Demolition of the remaining bridge structure will begin this spring. The entire construction project is expected to take years.\u00a0<\/p>\n The rebuild project is expected to cost $1.7 billion, fully funded by the federal government after months of lobbying by Maryland lawmakers and Gov. Wes Moore.\u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cThis action affirms the central importance of rebuilding the bridge not just to Maryland, but the nation,\u201d Moore said in a statement about the federal funding. \u201cThis bipartisan agreement is a win for port<\/a> workers, truckers<\/a>, small businesses, service me\u200bmbers and working families throughout Maryland and across America.
