A motorist was arrested over the weekend after colliding with a weigh station in Porter County, Indiana.<\/p>\n

The crash occurred on Saturday, January 18, at the weigh station on eastbound I-94, east of the Chesterton exit.<\/p>\n

According to Indiana State Police-Lowell Post<\/strong><\/a> (ISP), \u201cA black, 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe had driven through the entrance to the scale house at a high rate of speed. The Chevrolet struck the metal entrance gate, then continued through the scale lanes colliding with several street signs and light poles. The vehicle came to a rest on the bypass lane of the scale house against the metal guard rail.\u201d<\/p>\n

The crash sent debris flying, which shattered the weigh station\u2019s windows.<\/p>\n

The Tahoe driver, later identified as Lopez Monserrath, 28, of Chicago, Illinois, was determined to have been drinking alcohol, according to ISP.<\/p>\n

Troopers say she was offered the opportunity to take a chemical test, but \u201cthe driver\u2019s interactions resulted in her being charged with O.W.I. refusal\u201d and booked into the Porter County Jail.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was also learned that the driver was attempting to drive home; however, she was headed eastbound on I-94 rather than westbound towards Illinois,\u201d said state police.<\/p>\n

ISP says that the damage to the weigh station is several thousand dollars.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
