One organizer of Canada\u2019s 2022 \u201cFreedom Convoy\u201d has been sentenced to house arrest after spending time in jail.\u00a0<\/p>\n
47-year-old Pat King was convicted of five criminal charges, including mischief, counseling to commit mischief, counseling to obstruct a public or peace officer, and two counts of disobeying a court order, back in November 2024. King spent several months in jail before his sentencing on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to BBC<\/a>, King is the first of three main organizers of the 2022 convoy<\/a> in protest of Covid-19 measures. The other two main organizers, Tamara Lich and Chris Barber, will face sentencing next month.\u00a0<\/p>\n In court, King\u2019s lawyers argued that police were to blame for the rising tensions during the convoy\u2019s peaceful protest. King has since apologized for his role in the demonstration.\u00a0<\/p>\n King was arrested on February 18th, 2022 and spent 5 months in jail before being released on bail. He spent another brief period behind bars for violating court-ordered rules regarding his social media usage.\u00a0<\/p>\n King will spend three months on house arrest after being credited nine months for time already spent in jail.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
