{"id":19087,"date":"2025-02-28T21:43:53","date_gmt":"2025-02-28T21:43:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/pro-truckdrivers.com\/blog\/i-40-at-nc-tn-border-reopening-under-unusual-conditions-after-5-month-closure\/"},"modified":"2025-02-28T21:43:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-28T21:43:53","slug":"i-40-at-nc-tn-border-reopening-under-unusual-conditions-after-5-month-closure","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/pro-truckdrivers.com\/blog\/i-40-at-nc-tn-border-reopening-under-unusual-conditions-after-5-month-closure\/","title":{"rendered":"I-40 at NC\/TN border reopening under \u2018unusual\u2019 conditions after 5 month closure"},"content":{"rendered":"<p> <br \/>\n<\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_84\">\n<div class=\"tdb-block-inner td-fix-index\">\n<p>Interstate 40 near the state line is scheduled to <a href=\"https:\/\/cdllife.com\/2025\/i-40-at-north-carolina-tennessee-line-to-reopen-in-less-than-a-month-officials-say\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reopen this weekend<\/a> under \u201cunusual\u201d conditions for the first time since Hurricane Helene destroyed the roadway.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The 12 mile stretch of I-40 from Cold Springs Creek Road (Exit 7) in North Carolina to Big Creek Road (Exit 447) in Tennessee, is set to open on Saturday, March 1st with some limitations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/sandhillssentinel.com\/i-40-to-reopen-under-unusual-conditions-in-gorge\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sandhill Sentinel<\/a>, the highway is being reopened with \u201cunusual conditions.\u201d These include a reduced speed limit of 35 mph, a square, 9 inch concrete barrier separating traffic, one emergency only lane on the eastbound side, periodic breaks in traffic to allow for emergency medical service access, and no wide-loads allowed.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Officials warn that the reopened highway will likely experience delays due to these conditions, and say that drivers should consider\u00a0 I-26 from Asheville to Kingsport, Tenn., then I-81 South to I-40 as an alternate route.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Truck drivers are warned that, while semi trucks are allowed on the stretch of I-40, there are no alternate routes for trucks beyond Exit 20, despite what some GPS directions advise.
