57 and starting over need advice | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

Hi all,

I need some serious advice. In brief, I’m losing my home and want to start fresh somewhere else so I’m looking at trucking. I have no attachments here. I’m in NE Arkansas but would really like to leave the area and preferably- the state. But I’m a 57 M with no experience other than owning a video/video game store for 30 years and four years experience doing ultrasonic testing in nuke plants (nukes are slow atm). I really think driving a truck might be for me. With no attachments, I wouldn’t mind essentially living out of the truck. I realize that’s a lonely existence but I’m kind of a loner anyway and am happy with my hard drives of movies, and old-school emulator games. Basically, would like to start a new life and career with room for advancement, anywhere but here. I really really mean that last part- I’ll move anywhere, no problem.

I’m looking into companies that provide paid training because I have very little money. Been reading Reddit and other forums for a few days and am seeing mixed reviews on doing it that way so any advice is appeciated.

The big question is- who to try and work for? I see good and bad posts about companies but that’s true with eveything, I suppose. Prefer physically less demanding jobs even if somewhat less pay since my living expenses should be pretty low. I’m a hard worker and in good shape but getting older and don’t want to push it.

I guess, to cut it short- someone please help me chart a course through all this static. Tell me what you would do if you were in my situation, what not to do, tips and tricks- anything would be very much appreciated!
