After 20+ years of driving, I’m jumping into the LTL world. Most of my experience is with liquid and pneumatic tank, and my reason for this change is simple—money. I have about 20 years left of my working life, and I am looking to cash in now.
So of the 3 companies I have listed above, which of those companies would you choose? I’m leaning towards XPO due to the proximity of their barn to my house, and also they pay slightly more than the other two, and offer overtime after 8 in a day, and they have day 1 benefits. I know their reputation isn’t the best, but the drivers at this barn seem to be like people I’d get along well with.
Estes and OD are a little bit further away, upwards to an hour from my house. They seem to have a better reputation, and their pay is within $2 of what XPO is offering. I don’t know what their benefits are like, or anything like that, but I assume they’re similar.
I am going to start as a P&D, but eventually I want to do linehaul. If those of you out there with knowledge about these outfits could enlighten me, I’d certainly appreciate it!
