PennDOT announces commercial vehicle travel restrictions for winter weather


The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) plans to implement weather-related commercial vehicle travel restrictions this weekend.

Ahead of an impending winter storm, PennDOT announced the following travel restrictions:

Tier 2: Empties & Loaded Tandem Trailers w/o Chains or ATD Onboard are not permitted on the following roadways.

Effective at 5 p.m. January 5, 2025

  • I-376 between Exit 36: BRIGHTON and PA Turnpike
  • I-579 between I-376 and PA 28
  • I-579 between PA 28 and (End of I – 579)
  • I-70 between WV Line and Exit 57: NEW STANTON – HUNKER
  • I-79 between WV Line and Exit 77: I-76/TURNPIKE – YOUNGSTOWN OH/HARRISBURG

Effective at 12 a.m. on January 6, 2025

  • I-81 between MD Line and Exit 89: I-78 EAST – ALLENTOWN
  • I-83 between MD Line and I-81
