3406C 8PN fuel timing | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

Hello,

I am seriously interested in a 95 KW W900. It has a rebuilt engine that is full mechanical. I am not familiar with CATS at all I have had several BIG Cams over the years and never had any issues with them except I learned the hard way about a complete ####### child engine the dreaded 315HP 838cpl that was pretty limited to adding much long term reliable power so I never touched it. It was always reliable and ran fine as long as you were keeping pace with a non turbo 7.3 Ford…The 7.3 would probably still pull away from it, I also had a non turbo 7.3 back when…Had other Big Cams that would run so strong you really had to stay on top of shifting if you wanted to push them even when loaded. I have been searching for as much information as possible and what I have learned is that overall it is a great engine and the last run of the 3406C full mechanical engines except for the fuel timing is horrible? On the engine tag it says Fuel Timing 9.5 BTC. OEM #starts with 39x40a…It is a 425HP engine set at 1900 RPM. The questions I have is this something I should stay away from or get it and then have the fuel timing set to where it will run strong and be reliable? What should the timing be set at? Is it fairly simple to adjust the fuel timing or is that something that i need to find someone that is close in age with me that knows CATS to set it? Also what should the oil pressure be running at operating temperature at idle if the engine supposedly has around 150K miles since rebuilding? I will be the only driver of this truck as always…Thanks in advance for all of your help and support. I have learned a ton reading on here and have also been entertained by some of the yahoos..
