Hello all. I’m probably gonna get roasted for this but here goes…
8 years 11 months ago I was convicted of 2 DUIs in the state of WI. I didn’t even attempt to get my license back for 6 years. By that time I had moved to IL but was working at an Amazon warehouse just across the border in WI. It was surprisingly easy to get my license back although I did have to take classes.
I also ended up applying for Amazon TOM team to work out in the yard. I got hired! They paid for me to go to CDL school and I passed everything. I worked in the yard for about 2 years and probably moved thousands of trailers, and occasionally took short hauls to nearby Amazon sites.
I took on a new role at Amazon about a year ago. The new position still required me to have an up to date Med card since one of my duties would be to train box truck drivers, but included very little driving.
Due to recent drama in the workplace I am considering finally putting my CDL to use but what I am hearing from alot of recruiters is I am disqualified for either “no OTR experience/recent OTR experience” or because of having multiple DUIs, which honestly I get where they are coming from.
I know there are a few companies that will take you with even multiple DUIs but do any of them take you if you also have “no experience” which in my opinion isn’t exactly fair since I have driven combination vehicles on the interstate it’s not really “no experience” in my opinion. Is there a way I can phrase things that will sound better to recruiters? Or am I just out of luck unless I can afford my own truck and MC? Also I don’t drink anymore
