DT12 output shaft covered under warranty? | TruckersReport.com Trucking Forum

The clutch has a warranty for like 300,000 miles but there is a clutch overheat warning. I got that warning before on dash. If someone buns the clutch up they would not warranty that I would guess.

I had DD15 engine with 600,000 miles parts and labor warranty. They found head gasket leaking oil. It was going to be simple warranty repair. When the dealer took head off. They found burnt piston and what looked like rust in coolant ports in block. I was worried because they said, that had to call Detroit Diesel to see what they wanted to do because of the warranty and it was not a simple job at this point.

It took 3 days for Detroit Diesel to decide what to do. They took engine apart down to the block and cleaned the rust and replaced the burnt piston. They also found the piston liners were not set correctly at factory. They paid for everything parts and labor just like the warranty I had. The dealer was like we don’t see warranty that includes labor a lot.

Same engine I took to another Detroit Diesel shop for warranty on air compressor, plus just a checkup because it was 3 day from end of warranty. The shop said it would be 4 days wait just to get truck in shop. I’m wondering about my warranty coverage expiration before they get to my truck. They said as long as truck was at shop and in their system for repairs, even it it goes past the warranty expiration date they will still warranty any claim.

5 days later they call me and said truck was in shop but they had a problem. They finished my truck and started the engine got low oil pressure warning. They looked at engine and oil pump went out. The engine needs new roller bearings now. I was wondering who is responsible for this repair now. They said no problem it was in our shop before warranty expired and Detroit Diesel will cover the repair even though it was past warranty expiration date by 1 or 2 days.

I seen on line they didn’t sell any parts for the DT12 transmission. Not sure if that’s true. The output shaft is not like a deep internal part dealer could not change I would think. They might not be able to change it and be forced to replace the transmission under warranty. Have not heard anyone having transmission issues or repairs yet.

since the transmission is all computer controlled you can’t do much to shock the transmission like a manual if you pop the clutch out shift gears wrong. If someone was spinning tires in parking spot on snow or ice. Then got traction you could shock the the drive line and transmission. Not sure if they could tell that. If just normal driving and bad part from factory seems like warranty would cover whatever the problem is.
