I’ve been in the process of leaving my cryo based company for about a month at this point. For all intents and purposes, it was the absolute perfect job a driver could ask for. Zero stress, a boss engaged in salacious meme wars with another driver, a boss that didn’t press or push you for anything, an amazing work/life balance and a bunch of other fringe benefits.
But, as time goes on, I find that I receive continued confirmation of what I already know: An unchallenged, disengaged McUzi brain is a devil’s playground. I find that the 0500 to 1300 life is fantastic, but it is also mired in the inability to go over 40 hours ever since the WuFlu has gripped our economy. Over the last 3 months I’ve gained a LOT of weight, because I’m home so early in the day that I’m spending free time tending a grill loaded with steak/chicken/ribs/brisket, lounging in the pool and consuming copious amounts of beer or ####tails while I goof around with my wife and kids. First world problems, right?
An opportunity recently presented itself to me to join SAIA, at almost a $4/hr raise from my current position. This struck a chord to me because I had previously tried to get into SAIA during their initial NE expansion, but was prevented from doing so due to a non-preventable DOT recordable accident that I disclosed during the hiring process. Come to find out a year later (right around this time), that my application was incorrectly entered previously and I probably shouldn’t have been blocked from being hired at SAIA when I was.
Now I await the balance of my 2 week notice with my current employer. And I begin work as a city driver on 7/6, having completed and passed all of their contingencies for the hiring process.
In a strange way, I’m excited to jump back into the LTL chaos of P&D. The exciting balance I’m looking to strike is running P&D during the week and grabbing a linehaul run during the weekend.
